Muslims To Get First Imam Headquarter Soon

Secretary General of the United Council of Imams, Alhaji Max Kanu, in an exclusive interview with this medium, said that the first ever Headquarter for Sierra Leone’s Sunni Imams is nearing its completion stage at Jabbi Street, Calaba Town, under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Habib Sheriff, who was unanimously elected President of the Council on February 17 2017.
He said the new headquarter will consist of a Mosque and an Administrative block, which will accommodate a Dawaah, Accounts, Welfare, Library, IT, a hall and other offices, which will include the Secretary General’s Office, Public Relations Office and a liaison office. He said this is the first time that the council is going to have its own headquarter, with various departments to serve its interests. He said the headquarter, which costs over eight hundred million Leones (old notes), thanks to contributions from philanthropists and contributions from Islamic Faithfulls country wife, will soon be completed.
He said the Council has not only decentralized its activities from Chiefdom, District to Regional levels, but has been able to introduce a banking system from the daily collections made in the Masjids. The Secretary General said the Council has also inherited over a thousand Acres of Land to involve Imams in the Agricultural Sector for Socio-Economic sustainability. He said the Council has also inherited a cemetery at Masiaka for the burial of Imams, and are delighted to inform the general public that it has offered scholarships to its youth population to study Islamic and Quranic Studies in Egypt and Saubi Arabi. He said the Council has also assisted its membership to attend the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, adding as part of their activities, they have been offering special weekly lecturers to empower their membership with knowledge about the religion. He said the council maintains an advisory elderly council and a women support group to further promote its aims and objectives.
The Secretary General praised its President, Dr. Mohamed Habib Sheriff, for his initiative to empower the Imams and create competitive commitment in their various areas of residence. He said the Council can now boost of 1,136 sections nationwide, which are activity engaged in promoting Islam.
