AKK Calls On Parliamentarians To Reject The President Proposal To Remove Auditor General

The suspension of Auditor General, Mrs. Lara Pearce Taylor and the Deputy Auditor General, Mr. Tamba Momoh yet is one of the most topical issues in the present days as many citizens are with divergent views on the suspension of Auditor Generals. Majority are with the perceptions that it is very unconstitutional for the Auditor General and deputy to be unjustly removed from office at nek of time to publishing their annual reports that garnered all the loopholes of mismanagement of state resources.

Immediately after the suspension report, the President instituted a tribunal committee that was saddle to examine the activities of the Audit Services Sierra Leone. Few months ago, the committee presented their report to first gentleman of the country for public hearing.

Many citizens are in limbo as the current administration campaigned against corruption as one of the weapons they utilized fully to boot out the then government of H. E Former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma as they alleged his administration to be marred with corruption.

With such, many citizens thought that Bio’s administration would be distinct from the previous administrations in the fight against corruption as they were expecting the President would have set the phase by making sure that corruption becomes infertile yet is the inverse as misappropriation of funds is order of the day.

Many are with the opinions that this is the worst administration that corruption has become amiable as those institutions; Auditor Report, Anti- Corruption Commission etc have been carried away by political glimpse to effect their constitutional mandate.

However, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara unavoidably submitted his views about the tribunal report as it has been tabled in parliament to decide the final fate of Auditor Generals.

Opposition Chief Whip made it explicit that Audit Services Sierra Leone is an institution that is responsible to track both documented and undocumented expenditures as well as to trace the performance of government officials for the common good.

He continued to remember the President that during and after the 2018 general elections he declared war against corruption. According to the Opposition Chief Whip, he is shocked considering the effort of the President to remove the Auditor Generals as that has equally justified that corruption has taken the center stage of his administration.

He also analyzed that 2020 audit report informed the citizens that the office of the President is engulfed with funds embezzlement and based on his views that paved the way for the Auditors to be suspended as that would as pervert justice.
He emphasized that for the President to institute a body to examine Auditor Generals categorically undermine and set the threshold for those alleged to be corrupt free.

He mentioned that it’s a shame to understand that a gentleman that was so vociferous against corruption, his office has been alleged to bifurcate public funds for their personal vendetta.

He reiterated that since the tribunal report has been tabled in the well of Parliament for approval, he therefore calling on all parliamentarians to right the mistakes of the President as he was given ill advice to suspend and instituting tribunal committee.

He maintained that Sierra Leoneans are watching both young and old for what would be the decision of Parliament as the only institution that has the mandate to set a very good precedent for the common good.

This is not the time for loyalty, this is the time to save integrity, lay down best practices for the young generation “, the gentleman made these statements for all Parliamentarians to depoliticize the process and stand to safeguard the principles of accountability and transparency as that is the pathway for the nation’s development.

In conclusion, he emphatically continues to calling all Parliamentarians to restore the dignity of the country by not supporting unjust tribunal report as it has the potential to establish indelible bad precedence that will haunt present and next generations.
