Leone Rock Metal Group Renovates Babangida Hall in Binkolo

Binkolo, Sierra Leone  In a landmark event for the Safroko Limba Chiefdom, Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) officially handed over the newly renovated Babangida Hall to the Binkolo community. The ceremony, which took place amidst great celebration, was attended by local dignitaries, including Paramount Chief Alimamy Dura III, the Chiefdom Speaker, town Chiefs, community leaders, and a large gathering of residents. Also present were key representatives from LRMG, reaffirming the company’s dedication to sustainable development and social investment.

The Babangida Hall, originally constructed in 1988 by the late President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida of Nigeria, has been an essential communal asset for decades. However, years of wear and neglect had left the structure in dire need of restoration. Recognizing its cultural and social significance, LRMG undertook an extensive renovation, transforming the hall into a modern multipurpose facility designed to accommodate conferences, cultural performances, weddings, and educational workshops.

Comprehensive Upgrades for a Modern Community Hub

The renovation project encompassed critical structural enhancements, modernization of electrical systems, and improved accessibility features to ensure that the hall remains inclusive and functional for all members of the community. These upgrades not only provide a safer and more comfortable space but also reinforce the hall’s role as a central venue for fostering unity, creativity, and development.

Speaking at the event, Paramount Chief Alimamy Dura III, who chaired the ceremony, expressed profound gratitude to LRMG for their generous contribution to the well being of the community. He noted that the modernization of Babangida Hall represents more than just a physical upgrade it symbolizes a renewed commitment to cultural preservation and economic empowerment in Binkolo.

“This hall will serve as a cornerstone for social gatherings, educational programs, and cultural celebrations,” said the Paramount Chief. “It will strengthen community bonds and provide a space where ideas, traditions, and aspirations can thrive. I encourage LRMG to continue their invaluable support in future community development projects.”

Alhaji Mohammed Turay, LRMG’s Community and Security Manager, emphasized the company’s long standing partnership with Binkolo and its unwavering commitment to fostering positive change. He highlighted the significance of the Babangida Hall renovation, describing it as a reflection of LRMG’s respect for local history and its vision for a prosperous future.

In addition, Turay took the opportunity to commend Safroko Limba Chiefdom for its peaceful coexistence among the 10 chiefdoms and nine highlands within his jurisdiction. He also urged pedestrians and motorists to exercise caution when crossing the railway tracks from Kilometer 1 to 195 in Tonkolili, reinforcing LRMG’s commitment to safety in the region.

A Call for Community Stewardship

Security Superintendent Nabieu Fofonah closed the ceremony with a heartfelt appeal to the residents of Binkolo, encouraging them to take ownership of the newly renovated facility. He praised the collaboration between LRMG, local authorities, contractors, and the community, emphasizing that such partnerships are instrumental in driving sustainable development.

“This hall is a gift to the people of Binkolo, and it is our collective responsibility to maintain and protect it,” Fofonah stated. “With proper care, Babangida Hall will continue to serve generations to come.”
