Fatmata Bai Kamara Fears for Her Life Amid Alleged Brutality and Coupist Harbouring Charges

It has been revealed to this medium that Fatmata Bai Kamara, a security officer working for G4S Security Agency and one of the guards at the American Embassy in Sierra Leone, has been subjected to constant brutality, intimidation, and the threat of imprisonment. She faces charges of aiding and abetting, as well as harboring a coupist. She fears for her life under the PAOPA government, led by His Excellency, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, as this administration is widely known for unlawful arrests, detentions, and torture.
According to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), they received intelligence that Fatmata Bai Kamara was harboring her uncle, Major Foday Sumana Kamara. Major Kamara was later recaptured in Guinea and sentenced to 60 years in prison for his involvement in subversive activities aimed at overthrowing the government between June 24, 2023, and July 29, 2023. The SLP further stated that, in connection with the attempted coup on July 29, 2023, several military personnel and civilians were arrested and detained in the country’s custodial facilities, while others, including Major Kamara, fled.
Based on the intelligence received, law enforcement officials raided Fatmata Bai Kamara’s residence. Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the Sierra Leone Police were accompanied by military personnel during the operation. However, they did not find Major Kamara at the residence, as he had already fled to Guinea. Witnesses further disclosed that the police and military officers brutally assaulted Fatmata Bai Kamara before taking her to Benghazi a detention facility that Amnesty International has urged authorities to shut down due to reports of inhumane treatment.
Family members who have visited Fatmata Bai Kamara in correctional facilities revealed to this medium that her health is deteriorating due to the severe torture she has endured while in prison.
In the wake of the bloody coup attempt on November 26, 2023, armed assailants attacked correctional facilities, facilitating the escape of several detainees, including Fatmata Bai Kamara.
A nationwide manhunt has been launched to locate her, but so far, there has been no success. As of now, her whereabouts remain unknown, and the police have placed a bounty on her head for any information leading to her .
