SLP Declares Popular Gay Activist Wanted
The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has declared a strong Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBTQ) activist, Mohamed Dauda Kamara, wanted on the 4th July 2024 for leading an unauthorized parade in June (pride month) for members of the aforementioned community to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Manhattan USA
The spokesman for the SLP, Brima Kamara, in a widely listened to radio program had earlier warned against promulgating gay activities in private or public spaces on the premise that it is not only illegitimate but also against the culture and tradition of Sierra Leone
Mr. Kamara further stated that such crime under the Public Order Act of 1965 is tantamount to life imprisonment with hard labour since the death penalty has been expunged in 2021.
“We have intensified search for the fugitive and a handsome reward will be given to whosoever provide information that will lead to his arrest” The Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Sources told this medium that Mohamed Dauda Kamara had earlier written letter to seek permission from the SLP for the procession but the letter was ignored.
We were further informed that Mr. Kamara has been on the run since July when a group of armed police men from the CID went to his house to arrest him.
Family sources considered him as an outcast as he has drag the family name to the mud
His brother, Abubakarr Kamara sworn to his life that he will be the first person to notify the police if he has any information on his borther’s whereabouts. Abubakarr lamented that their mom Mrs. Neneh Oya Kamara, who had been to Mecca twice, has been buried in shame and frustration for his son’s abominable act.
He added that their dad who died about 18 years ago was a fervent Muslim and had served as a chief imam in Freetown’s largest mosques.
All efforts to get Mohamed Dauda Kamara side of the story have proven futile
