HON. IBRAHIM AZIZ BANGURA URGES PRESIDENT BIO TO DELIVER ON LUNGI BRIDGE PROMISES

In his contribution to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to President Bio’s address during the State Opening of the Second Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Hon. Ibrahim Aziz Bangura from Port Loko District focused on infrastructural development. Speaking on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, he reminded the President of his commitment to constructing the Lungi Bridge.

Hon. Bangura highlighted that the President’s statements regarding the bridge were clear policy commitments, and the people of Lungi are eagerly awaiting the project’s commencement. He emphasized the importance of the bridge for easing Freetown’s congestion and modernizing Lungi and Port Loko District.

The MP criticized the delays surrounding the project, including propaganda and stalled contract processes. “The people of Lungi are patiently waiting on the President to commence the construction of the bridge,” he reiterated.

Turning to road infrastructure, Hon. Bangura outlined the dire state of roads linking Lungi township to surrounding communities. He urged the government to prioritize repairing damaged bridges in the Mahera-Tulun, Mahera-Kamen, and Mahera-Kambia areas to improve connectivity and enhance residents’ mobility.

On youth empowerment, the MP called for more investment in the entertainment industry, citing its potential to generate significant revenue for the government and provide economic opportunities for young people. He encouraged the government to support youth in this sector for mutual benefits.
