In a landmark development for Sierra Leonean football, the Leone Rock Metal Group has signed a $150,000 (approximately NLe 3,388,170) sponsorship agreement with the Sierra Leone Premier League Board (SLPLB). This marks the second consecutive season of partnership, underscoring the group’s commitment to elevating the Leone Rock Premier League for the 2024-2025 season.
The signing ceremony took place at the prestigious Radisson Blu Conference Hall in Freetown, setting the stage for what promises to be a transformative season.

Magistrate Mark Ngegba, Chairman of the SLPLB, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming league season, slated to begin in the coming weeks. He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to fairness, improving gameplay quality, and advancing the league’s reputation nationally.
Representing the Leone Rock Metal Group, Mohamed Daffae emphasized the company’s dedication to fostering local talent, promoting unity, and creating economic opportunities across Sierra Leone. He noted the partnership’s success in generating over 1,500 direct and indirect jobs nationwide.
Football: A Unifying Force
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has also played a vital role in advancing the nation’s football landscape, organizing leagues across men’s, women’s, and youth divisions with external support. SLFA Secretary-General highlighted key achievements, such as international tournament qualifications and local players securing international opportunities.
However, challenges remain. Delays in distributing prize money last season were acknowledged, with commitments made to resolve these issues before year-end.
Broader Sports Development
Saffa Abdulai of the National Sports Authority praised the progress in football, identifying it as a transformative industry with multi billion dollar potential. He called for increased investment from both government and private entities and urged professional management and unity within the sector to unlock its full potential.
Comparing the league’s aspirations to models like the English Premier League, Abdulai outlined the transformative power of sports for youth empowerment and community development.
Commitment to Excellence
Leone Rock Metal Group’s Chief Technical Officer, Imran Silliah, highlighted the organization’s financial contributions and stressed the importance of transparency and compliance in sponsorship agreements. SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima also expressed gratitude for the group’s unwavering support, particularly during financially challenging times.
Brima emphasized football’s role in fostering community cohesion and called for constructive competition, adherence to regulations, and stakeholder collaboration to further develop the sport.
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James Teima, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sports as a vehicle for youth empowerment and national pride, underscoring its transformative impact on society.
A Promising Season Ahead
This sponsorship deal exemplifies the growing collaboration between the private sector and sports organizations in Sierra Leone. As preparations for the 2024-2025 Leone Rock Premier League intensify, stakeholders are optimistic about a season that promises to elevate the nation’s football standards and inspire pride on both regional and international platforms.
