Joy Precious Bayoh, a well-known advocate and influential voice before and after the recent elections in Kenema, has been appointed as the interim Treasurer of The Lawyers’ Society. Expressing her gratitude for this new role, Bayoh called it a significant milestone in her career and thanked God for the opportunity. “I hope to work in the best interests of The Lawyers’ Society,” she said.
Bayoh explained that the organization’s formation was driven by growing concerns over political interference in Sierra Leone’s legal profession. She emphasized, “This is a new chapter for our profession. Today, we thank God for the official launch of The Lawyers’ Society.” The society, formally introduced in Freetown on November 1, 2024, was established by a coalition of prominent lawyers to uphold the independence and integrity of the legal community.
As a young lawyer, Bayoh expressed her pride in holding this position, viewing it as a historic moment for her and for the legal profession. “This appointment reflects the trust that the members of The Lawyers’ Society have placed in me. It has been a longstanding dream, and now it is a reality. I look forward to working with the interim executive in good faith to further the mission of the organization,” she added.
