Foreign Investment in Black Johnson Fish Harbor Project Soars
As the final stages approach for the implementation of the Chinese-funded Modern Fish Harbor Project at Black Johnson Community, foreign investors are showing strong interest in the potential of this transformative initiative.
Among the most recent high-profile visitors to the project site is Hardy Zhang, President and CEO of Hidier Group International Holdings Limited, a global company based in Hong Kong with subsidiaries in Beijing, Guangdong, Nigeria, Egypt, and Liberia. On Monday, November 4th, 2024, Mr. Zhang toured the Black Johnson site, expressing serious interest in investing across several areas that could add substantial socio-economic value to the harbor project.
In discussions with officials, Mr. Zhang revealed plans to explore investment in multiple sectors, including energy, fish canning, ship and boat building, cold storage facilities, ice production, and other advanced technologies for value addition. His interest in Sierra Leone extends beyond the harbor project, as he also aims to invest in the newly established Free Trade Zone outside Freetown, following productive meetings with the Ministry of Trade.
Mr. Zhang highlighted the potential of the Ultra-Modern Fish Harbor Complex and Free Trade Zone to bring much-needed revenue to Sierra Leone, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth. He expressed admiration for the natural beauty and strategic location of the Black Johnson site, commending both the Chinese and Sierra Leonean governments for their commitment to advancing this impactful project. He pledged his support toward contributing to Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development.
During the site visit, Mohamed Jalloh, the Ministry’s Focal Person, provided an overview of the project and welcomed Mr. Zhang’s interest in Sierra Leone as an ideal investment destination. Mr. Jalloh assured him that the project is built on a “Win-Win” approach, prioritizing partnerships with both local and Chinese investors as they move into the final phases of implementation. He emphasized the strategic fit of the Black Johnson site for the project, noting that Sierra Leone and China are committed to ensuring the project’s full success.
