Freetown, Sierra Leone Hon. Rosie Marie Bangura, Member of Parliament representing Tonkolili District (Constituency 006) and Vice President of the Community Caucus in NASSALON, has expressed pride and gratitude following her recent election as Vice President of a regional caucus of the African Parliament.
Speaking in an interview shortly after her appointment, Hon. Bangura described the development as not just a personal achievement, but a significant victory for Sierra Leone as a whole.
“I feel very happy and honoured. This is a win for Sierra Leone. It shows that our country is making progress and that we are being recognised at the regional level,” she said.
According to her, the election process saw strong confidence from several African countries, with her nomination going unopposed after initial consultations and endorsements.
She explained that her selection reflects her dedication, parliamentary contribution, and commitment to regional cooperation and development.
“The process was smooth. Several countries supported my nomination, and in the end, no one contested against me. That shows trust in my leadership and in Sierra Leone’s growing influence,” she noted.
Hon. Bangura further outlined her priorities in her new role, emphasizing women’s empowerment, healthcare, and inclusive development across African communities.
She stressed that her focus will not only be on educated women but also on those without formal education, who often remain the most vulnerable.
“I am representing all women those who went to school and those who did not. My goal is to ensure that development programs reach every woman at the grassroots level,” she said.
She added that through her position, she intends to advocate for stronger partnerships with organisations that support health initiatives, economic empowerment, and community development programs.
Hon. Bangura also highlighted that her tenure will focus on long-term impact, especially programs that benefit future generations.
“The work we do today must also support the children of tomorrow. That is why I will continue to push for sustainable projects that uplift communities,” she added.
Her term as Vice President of the regional caucus is expected to run until 2029, when new elections will be held.
When asked about her confidence in delivering results during her tenure, she responded:
“With the support of my colleagues, leadership, and the people I serve, I am confident we will achieve meaningful progress. I am committed to doing my best.”
