Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Morocco Bids Farewell to President Bio
Alhaji Momodu Koroma, the incoming Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, bid a formal farewell to His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, as he prepared to embark on his new diplomatic mission.
Accompanied by his family, Ambassador Koroma, along with the High Commissioner to Nigeria and the Ambassador to Senegal, received congratulations from President Bio, who expressed confidence in their abilities to meet the nation’s expectations and enhance Sierra Leone’s strategic relationships with their respective countries for mutual benefit.
Alhaji Momodu Koroma brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having held prominent roles within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the administration of the late President Tejan Kabba. In addition to his political career, he boasts an academic background as a university professor, physicist, and environmentalist, emphasizing his dedication to education, science, and environmental issues, particularly renewable energy and sustainability.
During his tenure as Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Koroma played a vital role in managing the country’s international relations, contributing to the strengthening of diplomatic bonds with numerous nations. His service as Minister of Presidential Affairs and Minister of Energy and Environment focused on policy implementation, sustainable development, and the management of energy resources and environmental policies.
A notable achievement in Koroma’s career was his instrumental role in establishing the Peacebuilding Fund for Sierra Leone in partnership with the United Nations, supporting the nation’s recovery initiatives post-conflict.
In 2007, Koroma ran as the SLPP’s vice-presidential candidate alongside the Late Solomon Berewa, showcasing his influence within the party and national politics.
As Sierra Leone’s upcoming Ambassador to Morocco, succeeding H.E. Atumanni Dainkeh, Koroma’s expertise in economic diplomacy is poised to advance bilateral relations further, especially following recent trade agreements between Sierra Leone and Morocco.
The Sierra Leone Embassy in Rabat, established on August 27, 2021, is set to benefit from Ambassador Koroma’s wealth of experience, promising to fortify the connections between the two nations.
