Freetown, Tuesday, November 4, 2025 A renewed wave of enthusiasm swept through the All People’s Congress (APC) on Tuesday as Hon. Catherine Zainab Tarawallie formally launched her campaign for the position of National Women’s President of the party. The declaration, made during a well-attended meeting with Members of Parliament at Tower Hill in Freetown, was marked by passionate calls for unity, inclusion, and women’s empowerment within the APC.

In her address, Hon. Tarawallie urged her colleagues in Parliament and the broader APC family to rally behind her vision for a more dynamic and inclusive women’s wing. She emphasized that her decision to run stemmed from a deep sense of duty to strengthen women’s participation in party leadership and national development.

“I am offering myself for service because I believe that women in our great party deserve a stronger voice, greater representation, and equal opportunities to contribute to decision-making,” she said. “My leadership will be about inclusion, mentorship, and empowerment ensuring that every woman, from the grassroots to the executive, feels seen and valued.”

Hon. Tarawallie’s declaration was met with warm applause as she outlined her extensive record of leadership and service. She recounted her journey as a lifelong APC member since the age of 18, highlighting her groundbreaking role as the first female President of the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology. Her professional and political experience, she added, has equipped her with the skills and resilience to lead the women of the APC into a new era of strength and solidarity.

Responding to her declaration, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, commended Hon. Tarawallie for her courage, humility, and respect for party structures. He described her bid as a positive step toward revitalizing the APC’s internal democracy and advancing women’s leadership within the party.

“The APC must remain focused and united as the people of Sierra Leone look to us for meaningful change,” Hon. Kargbo remarked. “We must continue to support leaders like Hon. Tarawallie who embody the values of loyalty, service, and commitment.”

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Hon. Memunatu Jalloh, Member of Parliament for Port Loko District and North East Regional Chair of the APC Women’s Wing. She praised Hon. Tarawallie’s boldness and vision, describing her as “a beacon of hope for women across the party and the nation.”
