$150K Boost for Sierra Leone Women’s Football Secured by SLFA President
In a major milestone for women’s football in Sierra Leone, the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, has successfully secured a historic $150,000 sponsorship agreement with Marampa Mines Limited (MML) to support the 2025/26 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League. The partnership, officially unveiled at the SLFA Secretariat in Freetown, marks the largest corporate sponsorship ever directed towards women’s football in the country, signaling a new era of growth, empowerment, and visibility for the sport.

At the ceremony, Graig Dean, Chairman of Marampa Mines Limited, expressed pride in partnering with SLFA under President Kamara’s visionary leadership. He described the sponsorship as a long-term commitment to developing women’s football, emphasizing that MML’s support extends beyond a single season and reflects a shared vision for the sport’s sustainable growth.
Addressing attendees, President Kamara thanked Marampa Mines for their confidence and generosity. He stressed that the funds will be utilized strictly for the intended purpose of enhancing the women’s league and national teams. Kamara described the partnership as a powerful symbol of women’s empowerment and national unity, highlighting how football continues to serve as a unifying force and a tool for social cohesion across Sierra Leone.

President Kamara also spotlighted the recent achievements of the Sierra Leone U17 and Senior Women’s National Teams, both victorious in the 2025 WAFU Women’s Championship, noting that the MML sponsorship would further strengthen the domestic league and contribute to building competitive national squads.
Praising the initiative, Sports Minister Augusta James-Teima commended President Kamara for his leadership, remarking that the partnership demonstrates the critical role of the private sector in supporting sports development. “This shows that Marampa Mines is not only here to mine resources but also to help build Sierra Leone,” she affirmed.
The signing ceremony, attended by SLFA Vice President 2 Prince Saquee, NSA Deputy Executive Director Dr. Abdulrahman Swarray, and Women’s League Chairperson Madam Rachael Pessima, featured the presentation of a $150,000 mock cheque and the official signing of the agreement.
In recognition of his contribution, President Kamara presented the national team jersey to MML Chairman Graig Dean, officially naming him an Ambassador for the Sierra Leone Football Association.
The event concluded with heartfelt remarks from Sarah Bangura, captain of Sierra Queens and FC Kallon, who expressed deep appreciation to President Kamara and Marampa Mines for their unwavering commitment to advancing women’s football in Sierra Leone.
This landmark sponsorship not only strengthens the Women’s Premier League but also underscores Sierra Leone’s growing reputation as a hub for women’s football development in West Africa.
