Sierra Leone’s 1861 constitution, under section 61 of the offences against the person’s Act of 1861, same-sex sexual activity remains illegal in Sierra Leone and is puninishable by law up to life imprisonment.
Though it is very difficult to see litigations on such matters, their are people who still ponit fingers at them, the country’s two relegions are also frowning the act while community mob justice continues to be the other of the day, and this threatens the lives of same sex partners.
According to one of the hunam right activists, there are still issues of discrimination among people who express their feelings for their same sex partners. “In our communities, no-one practices same sex orientation and allowed to be staying in that community.
If you try that, you are not only going to face the wrath of your family but the entire community” he stated.
