Parliament Lauds Pee Cee & Sons’ Role in Feed Salone Success
In a remarkable show of public-private collaboration, the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Food Security has praised Pee Cee & Sons for its groundbreaking work in advancing Sierra Leone’s Feed Salone agenda.
The commendation came during an oversight visit led by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Sallieu Osman Sesay, to the company’s expansive onion farm in Lokomasama, Port Loko District, on Thursday, October 9, 2025. The visit formed part of Parliament’s ongoing mission to assess agricultural investments nationwide and ensure that they align with the Government’s vision for agricultural transformation and food self-sufficiency.
Driving the Feed Salone Vision
Pee Cee & Sons has emerged as one of the leading players in Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector, particularly in the cultivation of onions a crop that was once heavily imported. Through its large-scale operations, the company is directly supporting President Julius Maada Bio’s Feed Salone initiative, which seeks to boost local food production, reduce import dependency, and promote sustainable farming practices.
During the visit, Emmanuel Tamba Koroma, the company’s Environmental and Social Security Manager, briefed the Committee on ongoing operations. He revealed that Pee Cee & Sons currently cultivates about 120 hectares of onions and employs over 250 workers, the majority of whom are residents of surrounding communities.
He noted that the company has already completed several successful harvests and consistently supplies fresh onions to markets across Sierra Leone a feat that has helped reduce the nation’s reliance on imported onions, stabilize prices, and increase local food availability.
Commitment to Sustainability and Community Impact
Emmanuel Tamba Koroma emphasized that Pee Cee & Sons remains committed to sustainable agricultural practices, prioritizing environmental protection, health and safety standards, and corporate social responsibility (CSR). He added that the company plans to expand by an additional 100 hectares, a move expected to boost production capacity and create more employment opportunities, especially for rural youth and women.
“Beyond business, our focus is on building resilient communities,” he explained. “We have supported local clinics, contributed to education and youth development, and maintained open engagement with traditional leaders to ensure harmony and mutual understanding.”
He reaffirmed Pee Cee & Sons’ dedication to advancing the Feed Salone vision:
Our goal is to complement the Government’s ambition by investing in modern, sustainable agriculture that not only feeds the nation but empowers local people and drives economic growth.”
Parliament’s Endorsement and Encouragement
Speaking at the end of the tour, Hon. Sallieu Osman Sesay expressed deep satisfaction with the level of professionalism, organization, and impact demonstrated by Pee Cee & Sons.
“The Committee is truly impressed with what we’ve seen,” he remarked. “Pee Cee & Sons is a shining example of how private enterprises can contribute meaningfully to national development through agriculture. This is the kind of commitment that will make the Feed Salone agenda a success.”
He commended the company for maintaining strong ethical and environmental standards, adding that Parliament would continue to play its oversight role constructively ensuring that national agricultural policies translate into real benefits for ordinary Sierra Leoneans.
Part of a Broader Oversight Mission
The Committee’s visit to Pee Cee & Sons was part of a larger nationwide oversight mission that also included engagements with other agribusinesses, such as Sunbird Bioenergy in Bombali District. These visits focused on evaluating compliance, safety, sustainability, and workforce welfare across the agricultural value chain.
A Model for Agribusiness Excellence
Pee Cee & Sons’ success story represents a vital model for local agribusiness development in Sierra Leone. Through innovation, strategic investment, and strong community engagement, the company has positioned itself at the forefront of the country’s food production revolution.
Its ongoing expansion, employment generation, and commitment to sustainability show how private sector investment can drive national progress.
As the Feed Salone agenda continues to gain momentum, Pee Cee & Sons stands as a living testament to the power of partnership where government vision meets private initiative to transform lives, ensure food security, and build a stronger, self-reliant Sierra Leone.
