NASSIT Embarks on a Digital Transformation Drive to Enhance Service Delivery

By Benjamin Conteh

In a bold move toward modernization and improved service delivery, the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has announced a major digital transformation initiative aimed at bringing its services closer to members and ensuring faster, more efficient processing of benefits.

Speaking during the official launch of the 2025 NASSIT Customer Service Week, held on Monday, 6th October 2025, at the Julius Maada Bio Parade Ground, Hockey Pitch, Wilberforce, Freetown, the Acting Director General of NASSIT, Mr. Mohammed Gondoe, said the institution is taking a “transformative leap into the digital era.”

He emphasized that the decision to digitize NASSIT’s operations is part of a comprehensive effort to ensure seamless service delivery, transparency, and accountability.

Our mission is simple
to make NASSIT a centre of excellence in service delivery. Through digitalization, we are ensuring that every member can access our services conveniently, reliably, and efficiently,”
said Mr. Gondoe.

Celebrating Service and Innovation

Launching the 2025 edition of the Customer Service Week held under the theme “Mission Possible” Mr. Gondoe highlighted the importance of the annual event as an opportunity to celebrate the resilience and dedication of both customers and staff.

He explained that NASSIT’s commitment to improving customer experience goes beyond words, as the institution has already made remarkable progress in implementing several key ICT-driven projects.

Key Achievements in NASSIT’s Digital Transformation Agenda

  1. ICT Infrastructure Upgrade and Data Cleaning
NASSIT has successfully completed a full upgrade of its ICT network infrastructure and initiated a data cleaning project to ensure operational efficiency. This enhanced system has reduced downtime, improved data accuracy, and accelerated internal processes creating a solid foundation for secure and reliable service delivery.
  2. Web-Based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System 98% Complete
The ERP system integrates critical functions such as finance, procurement, stores management, and fleet management into a unified digital platform. This integration enables real-time data sharing across departments, enhances resource management, and significantly reduces operational costs
    boosting overall productivity.
  3. Web-Based Pension Administration System (PAS) – 99% Complete
At the heart of NASSIT’s digital agenda is the near-complete web-based Pension Administration System. The PAS covers all aspects of pension management from member registration to benefits processing
and includes mobile and web portals for both contributors and pensioners. This innovation will dramatically shorten processing times and make services accessible “at the fingertips” of users nationwide.
  4. Multi-Factor Biometric Registration System In Progress
Currently at the stage of bidders’ evaluation, the biometric system aims to strengthen data security and prevent fraud. The new system will register active members, beneficiaries, and pensioners through advanced biometric verification. It also includes a customer contact centre and is expected to go live before the end of 2025.

Mr. Gondoe described these milestones as part of a broader vision to make NASSIT a digitally empowered institution capable of meeting the needs of modern Sierra Leone.

This transformation is not just about technology it’s about people. It’s about ensuring that our members receive the service they deserve, wherever they are, whenever they need it,”
he noted.

Partnering with RSLAF to Strengthen Social Protection

As part of the Customer Service Week activities, NASSIT will spend the coming weeks delivering on-site services to members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) across various locations in the Western Area. The Acting DG urged all personnel to take full advantage of this outreach to address their pending issues and update their records.

In his remarks, the Chief of General Staff, Major General S.D.T. Ngagua, commended NASSIT for its proactive partnership with the Armed Forces, describing the initiative as a clear demonstration of shared commitment to social protection and welfare.

This exercise ensures that soldiers can retire in peace and dignity after years of dedicated service,”
he said, expressing gratitude to the NASSIT leadership for bringing services directly to the military community.

Also speaking, Brigadier General M.S. Senesie, President of the Men’s Committee of the Sierra Leone Army, applauded NASSIT for its professionalism and efficiency, adding that the institution’s administrators rank among the finest he has worked with.

To facilitate the exercise, a fully equipped workstation was set up to serve RSLAF personnel and other visiting customers during the event.

In conclusion, Mr. Gondoe expressed appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff, the military leadership, and all NASSIT staff for their collaboration and commitment.

At NASSIT, we are redefining service delivery through innovation, dedication, and care. Together, we make the ‘Mission Possible,’”
he affirmed.
