SALWACO To Targets 84% Water Access by 2030
The Managing Director of Sierra Leone Water Company, Ing. George Lamin Vandi has said in Freetown that SALWACO will extended water supply access to 84% by 2030 .
Mr. Vandi made this statement on Friday 19th September 2025, during ongoing bilateral budget discussions at the Ministry of Finance Conference Hall, George Street, Freetown. t
Ing. Vandi explained that SALWACO is also expanding their distribution network, particularly in underserved rural and peri-urban communities, which is in-line with the government goal of universal water access.
He told participants that they are committed to ensuring the highest quality and service reliability standards, adding that their strategy involves modernizing water treatment facilities, adopting advanced water quality monitoring systems, and implementing robust maintenance practices to minimize service disruption. In building organizational capacity, to achieve their strategic objectives, they will invest in capacity building for the SALWACO workforce, which includes continuous professional development, adopting best practices in water utility management, and recruiting skilled personnel to drive innovation and efficiency within the company.
Highlighting on the various revenue streams within SALWACO, Ing Vandi said they are water rates, water bowser sales, public stand posts & water kiosks, new connections and reconnections with government subventions, and proposed additional revenue streams from water bottling In his contribution towards the budget process in the Ministry of Finance, the Communications Lead for SALWACO, Sheku Putka Kamara, underscored the importance of paying water bills, which has been a serious concern over the years. Which he continued that the government of Sierra Leone funds over 95% of SALWACO implementations and urged that it would be grateful if customers were willing and ready to pay their bills.
He said customers should not be forced and coerced to pay for services is there mandates to pay as long as they get the facility.
