Sengeh Backs $68M Education Project in Magburaka
Magburaka, September 12, 2025 – Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to transforming education through massive infrastructure investments. His assurance came during an inspection visit to the Magburaka Government Secondary School Project, where he highlighted progress made under the Sierra Leone Education Sector Support Project.

Dr. Sengeh, accompanied by the project contractor Castleton Rhodes Commodities (LLC), toured the ongoing works at the Magburaka Boys Secondary School. The project is one of several major undertakings jointly executed by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) and the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) to improve learning environments across the country.

As part of his engagement, the Chief Minister chaired a Steering Committee Meeting at the project site. The meeting reviewed the bill of quantities (BOQ), evaluated progress and scope, and examined the challenges faced by contractors, while also mapping out urgent interventions to keep the project on track for timely completion.

The Education Sector Support Project is not confined to Magburaka. It includes wide-ranging rehabilitation and construction initiatives at landmark institutions such as the Government Secondary School in Bo, Government Secondary School in Kenema, the Prince of Wales School in Freetown, Milton Margai Technical University, and Eastern Technical University in Kenema. Together, these developments form a nationwide strategy to modernize both secondary and higher education infrastructure.

Dr. Sengeh disclosed that the $68 million initiative, launched under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio, has reached 66% completion and is on course for final delivery in June 2026. He stressed that the project is central to Sierra Leone’s Human Capital Development Agenda, which prioritizes education as the foundation for long-term national growth.

“Every child and young person in Sierra Leone deserves access to modern, quality education. These investments are not just about buildings; they are about creating spaces where future leaders, innovators, and change-makers can thrive,” Dr. Sengeh emphasized.

The Chief Minister’s visit to Magburaka, often described as the nation’s “educational heartland,” reaffirmed the government’s broader vision to ensure that schools and universities across Sierra Leone are equipped with the facilities needed for effective teaching, learning, and research.
