By Bockarie Kamara
In a bold step to address Sierra Leone’s growing youth unemployment challenge, the Abubakarr & Fatmata Taylor Bangs Recruitment Company (AFTBRC) officially opened its Freetown branch on Friday, 12th September 2025. The unveiling ceremony, held at the Model School Compound on Circular Road, marked the company’s entry into Sierra Leone’s labour market with a mission to connect local workers to sustainable international job opportunities.

The launch was attended by community leaders, the media, young jobseekers, and stakeholders from various sectors, reflecting the high anticipation surrounding the company’s promise of job creation and economic empowerment. The mood was both celebratory and hopeful, as the initiative was welcomed as a timely intervention in the fight against joblessness.
AFTBRC’s Vision and Services
Speaking at the event, AFTBRC Manager, Mr. Tamba Swaray, introduced the company’s goals and operations. He explained that the firm specializes in recruitment and staffing services, ranging from temporary and permanent placements to labour supply on a contractual basis. While AFTBRC is headquartered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), its newly established Sierra Leone office is located at 5 Queen Street, Freetown.
Mr. Swaray stressed that AFTBRC is committed to becoming a trusted partner in manpower solutions, bridging the gap between Sierra Leone’s workforce and international markets, particularly in the UAE.
Job Opportunities for Sierra Leoneans
As part of its maiden operations, AFTBRC announced a recruitment drive for 100 skilled and unskilled Sierra Leonean workers for direct employment in the UAE. This will be rolled out in two phases
57 workers in the first batch and 43 in the second.
The categories of workers in demand include masons, carpenters, welders, tilers, house helps, and general construction workers. Additionally, the company is preparing opportunities for up to 200 commercial motorbike riders (“okada” riders) to transition into international employment.
CEO’s Inspiring Journey
Delivering the keynote speech, AFTBRC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abubakarr Taylor Bangura, reflected on his personal journey. He narrated how he left Sierra Leone for the UAE in 2018 with determination and resilience, carving a path for himself through hard work and professional excellence.
Inspired by his own success abroad and with the unwavering support of his wife and co-founder, Mrs. Fatmata Bangura Mr. Bangura decided to establish AFTBRC as a vehicle to open similar doors for other Sierra Leoneans.
“This company is not only mine but belongs to all Sierra Leoneans,” Mr. Bangura said with conviction. “Our mission is to create pathways for our youths to apply their skills, earn dignified wages, and uplift their families. With our contracts in Dubai and beyond, we want Sierra Leoneans to take their rightful place in international labour markets.”
Future Expansion Plans
Beyond recruitment, Mr. Bangura disclosed that AFTBRC has secured binding agreements with companies across Dubai and other parts of the UAE after completing all necessary legal and licensing requirements.
He further revealed the company’s ambition to diversify into tourism, shipping, finance, and pharmaceuticals. A major project on the horizon is the establishment of a pharmacy in Sierra Leone, scheduled to launch in January 2026.
Transparency and Accountability
Emphasizing fairness in the recruitment process, Mr. Bangura assured the public that transparency will guide all operations. Applicants, he noted, must meet basic requirements, including possession of valid passports and medical clearance. He also highlighted that all agreements will be legally binding and will require guarantors to safeguard accountability.
Hope for the Future
The event concluded on an optimistic note, with participants praising the initiative as a beacon of hope for young Sierra Leoneans struggling with unemployment. Many expressed excitement at the opportunity to gain international exposure and better livelihoods, while others underscored the broader economic impact such ventures could have on communities and the nation at large.
With AFTBRC’s entry into Sierra Leone, the narrative of youth unemployment may gradually shift from despair to opportunity, as the company seeks to position Sierra Leoneans as competitive players in the global workforce.
