Sierra Leone Begins SDGs, Agenda 2063 Training
Freetown Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) of the African Union, on Tuesday, 9th September 2025, officially launched a four-day capacity-building workshop at the New Brookfields Hotel. The event, themed “Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063 in Sierra Leone: Advancing the Principle of Subsidiarity in Practice,” brought together key national and international stakeholders to strengthen local ownership and accelerate progress on the global and continental development agendas.
Supported by the Government of Italy under the regional initiative “Strengthening Local and National Government Capacities for SDG Localization in Africa,” the workshop seeks to empower Sierra Leonean institutions at both national and local levels to integrate the SDGs and Agenda 2063 into actionable development strategies. It also aims to improve planning, budgeting, and service delivery while ensuring that no one is left behind.
The initiative reflects Sierra Leone’s growing commitment to aligning its national priorities with international frameworks, building on experiences such as the Voluntary Local Reviews (VLRs) conducted in three municipalities.
