Dr. Fatima Maada Bio Honored with Prestigious LPSA Africa First Lady of the Year 2024 Award
Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the esteemed First Lady of Sierra Leone, continues to receive widespread praise following her recognition as the LPSA Africa First Lady of the Year 2024. The award was presented at the British House of Parliament on Wednesday, 9th October 2024.
On Friday, 11th October 2024, the First Lady was again celebrated at a special LPSA/OSHAssociation event at the exclusive Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington, West London. Tomorrow, she will head to Milton Keynes to participate in the launch of a book that honors “illustrious African Queens,” an apt event given her recent accolade.

This recognition marks a historic milestone, as Dr. Fatima Bio becomes the first First Lady to receive the prestigious LPSA award. It highlights her tireless advocacy for women’s and girls’ rights across Africa and the globe. Her bold stance on gender equality and her efforts to address critical social issues have solidified her place as a transformative figure on the global stage, bringing pride to Sierra Leone and the entire African continent.
Dr. Bio’s contributions, such as the construction of a 600-bed hospital in Freetown and her success in urging the United Nations to establish a global day for young girls and women, have earned her global acclaim. This latest award further cements her influence and leadership.

Her success is a reflection of the shared vision she holds with her husband, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone. Together, they continue to uplift Sierra Leone on the international stage, inspiring well-meaning citizens and leaders alike.
The LPSA, established in 2016, brings together political leaders, business executives, and scholars to promote dialogue and peace. Dr. Fatima Bio now joins a distinguished group of past honorees, including Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera. The award was presented by Rt. Hon. Andrew Gwynne MP, at a ceremony attended by notable figures from politics, business, and academia.
Dr. Fatima Maada Bio’s recognition is a proud moment for Sierra Leone and Africa, as her dedication to advancing women’s rights continues to inspire leaders and future generations worldwide.
