Dr. Ibrahim Bangura Pledges Peace and Unity for Sierra Leone
By Musa Paul Feika
All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer contender, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, has unveiled a bold vision for Sierra Leone’s future, pledging to champion peace, foster national unity, and build a country that provides greater opportunities for its younger generation.
Speaking on Tuesday, 9th September 2025, at his residence on Scott Drive, Wilberforce, Freetown, Dr. Bangura addressed journalists in what many described as an inspiring and forward-looking engagement. He began by thanking the media for their dedication and commitment to amplifying the voices of leaders who seek to shape the country’s destiny.
Dr. Bangura acknowledged Sierra Leone’s political challenges, particularly the tendency toward regional division, which he argued weakens national cohesion. He was quick to emphasize, however, that the Sierra Leone of today is not the same as during the civil war era, and therefore requires a new vision anchored in peace and inclusivity.
He described the country’s difficulties as “astronomically significant,” pointing to widespread poverty, gender inequality, and a deeply divided civil society and media landscape. While commending former Presidents Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and Ernest Bai Koroma for laying important foundations through the establishment of key national institutions, he stressed that successive governments have not adequately invested in long-term development strategies for the next generation.
According to Dr. Bangura, his campaign is intentionally focused on bridging the gaps between generations, uniting Sierra Leoneans across political and regional divides, and addressing the root causes of social and economic stagnation. He emphasized that the APC remains a platform for collective action, and called on citizens to actively contribute toward building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
Describing his interactions with the media as both constructive and encouraging, he urged journalists to “trust the process,” assuring them that “there is light at the end of the tunnel.” He reminded them that progress requires patience, persistence, and collaboration.
Dr. Bangura concluded his address by reaffirming his belief in hard work, merit, and perseverance. “I have never lost in any endeavor I have pursued,” he declared, promising that his vision for Sierra Leone would be driven by the principles of integrity, national unity, and service to future generations.
