Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Isatu Aminata Bundu, Resigns

The Government of Sierra Leone has officially accepted the resignation of Her Excellency Isatu Aminata Bundu, the country’s High Commissioner to Kenya, marking the conclusion of her diplomatic service under President Julius Maada Bio’s administration.

This resignation comes nearly six months after her father, Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, stepped down as Speaker of Parliament. High Commissioner Bundu has formally bid farewell to the staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission in Nairobi, as well as to Kenya’s President, William Ruto, signaling the end of her role.

During her tenure, Bundu was instrumental in managing bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Kenya, representing her country in various diplomatic engagements. The government’s acceptance of her resignation was communicated through an official letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which outlined the next steps, including the appointment of Mr. Abdul K. Kargbo, Minister Plenipotentiary, as Charge d’Affaires ad interim until a new High Commissioner is appointed.

As part of her repatriation, the government has directed the Mission to notify Kenyan authorities and other diplomatic missions in Nairobi of the transition. Arrangements are being made for Bundu’s return to Sierra Leone, with repatriation costs covered according to Section 45 of the Public Procurement Act of 2004, including business class tickets for Bundu and her spouse, and economy class tickets for her three children. Additionally, her personal effects and vehicle will be shipped through appropriate channels.

Her departure comes at a pivotal moment for the Bundu family, following her father’s resignation from his prominent role as Speaker of Parliament. With Bundu stepping down, Sierra Leone now awaits the appointment of a new High Commissioner to Kenya, while Mr. Abdul K. Kargbo assumes interim leadership at the diplomatic mission.
