Chericoco Honored for Democratic and Social Impact

In a ceremony recognizing decades of principled leadership and advocacy, Hon. Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah widely known as Chericoco was presented with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Awards Committee, organized by the Kids Advocacy Network.

The event, held on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, celebrated Chericoco’s enduring contributions to democracy, peacebuilding, and his unwavering commitment to the rights of women and children in Sierra Leone.

Spanning a 15-year parliamentary journey, Chericoco has been a consistent voice for inclusive governance, gender equality, and the protection of vulnerable populations. His tenure as both Deputy Speaker and Leader of the Opposition has been marked by calm, principled leadership and a reputation for bridging political divides in pursuit of national unity.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Edmond Alim B. Fornah, hailed him as “a selfless leader whose influence continues to echo through generations.” He emphasized that the award honors Chericoco’s courage in defending democratic values and his bold advocacy for marginalized voices
particularly women and children even amid political resistance.

Alimatu Jalloh, Deputy Executive Director of the Kids Advocacy Network, praised Chericoco for championing the rights of girls and young mothers. She highlighted his pivotal role in overturning policies that once barred pregnant schoolgirls from attending school. “He didn’t just speak for us
he fought for us,” she affirmed.

Throughout his public service, Chericoco has earned respect across party lines for his ability to foster dialogue and uphold democratic ideals. His leadership style is defined by humility, empathy, and an unwavering belief in justice.

Accepting the award, Chericoco expressed deep gratitude to the organizers and reaffirmed his lifelong dedication to equality, justice, and national development.

“Promoting peace and democratic values has always been at the heart of my public service,” he said. “This award renews my resolve to stand for the voiceless and build a nation where every child and woman can reach their full potential.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award cements Hon. Chericoco’s legacy as a statesman not defined by titles, but by the countless lives he has uplifted and the democratic values he continues to uphold.
