QCell and MOCTI Bring Development Dialogue to Kambia

In a bid to strengthen ties with communities and share future plans, QCell Sierra Leone the nation’s fastest-growing telecommunications company joined forces with the Ministry of Communications, Technology, and Innovation (MOCTI) to host a town hall meeting in Kambia District on Saturday, 9th August 2025.

The gathering provided an open platform for residents, local leaders, and QCell executives to interact directly, exchange ideas, and address concerns about telecommunications services in the region.

Mohamed Mansaray, District Council Chairman, warmly welcomed QCell to Kambia, describing the event as historic for the district. He praised the company’s resilience since entering Sierra Leone in 2019, noting that despite early doubts, QCell has established itself nationwide with visible investments and accessible products. Mansaray urged QCell to keep delivering quality, affordable services, stressing that communication is now a basic necessity.

Minister of Communications, Technology, and Innovation, Madam Salima Bah, commended QCell for engaging directly with the people. She acknowledged the challenges of running a telecom company in a competitive, capital-intensive market, adding that many entrants have failed to survive. “Since QCell entered the market, they have not only survived but excelled,” she said.

Madam Bah highlighted the company’s role in fostering competition and consumer choice. She also urged communities to protect telecom infrastructure, especially against cable theft, as safeguarding investor assets builds confidence and encourages further development. She appealed to QCell to maintain affordable tariffs so customers can stay connected and use the internet productively.

QCell CEO Karthik Jayamani thanked Kambia residents for their strong turnout and trust in the brand. He described QCell as a “listening company” committed to engaging with customers and tailoring services to their needs.

Since 2019, QCell has expanded its network across Sierra Leone, deploying green energy at most sites to ensure 24/7 service even in remote locations. Jayamani stressed that telecommunications should no longer be seen as a luxury but as a necessity without boundaries.

He also announced that QCell is in the final stages of rolling out its 5G network nationwide a development set to enhance internet speeds and improve call quality across both urban and rural areas.
