Ngobie Named 2025 West Africa Humanitarian of the Year

In a proud moment for Sierra Leone, the Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Mr. Augustine Foday Ngobie, has been awarded “Humanitarian of the Year 2025 in West Africa” by the prestigious Africa Arise Organization. The award celebrates his exceptional dedication to public service, community development, and ethical leadership.

The accolade was formally presented to Mr. Ngobie on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, during a special ceremony held at the ACC’s headquarters, Integrity House, Tower Hill, Freetown. Themed “Putting Africa First,” the 2025 edition of the Africa Development Award recognized individuals across the continent whose lives and work have profoundly impacted their communities and inspired a new generation of service-oriented leadership.

A Life of Quiet Impact

The Executive Director of Africa Arise, Mr. Peter M. Konteh, emphasized that Mr. Ngobie was chosen after a thorough vetting process involving interviews and community consultations across multiple sectors.

The testimonies we received about Mr. Ngobie’s life were consistently moving and powerful. He was described as a man of humility, integrity, discipline, and selfless service,” said Mr. Konteh. “This award is not just about one’s title, but about how much love and sacrifice you show for your country and people.”

Upon receiving the award, Mr. Ngobie expressed deep gratitude and humility, saying he was surprised that his quiet and consistent efforts were being recognized on such a scale.

I never imagined that my personal and professional efforts
often unnoticed were being observed and appreciated,” he said. “This honour not only humbles me but also renews my commitment to serve with even greater integrity and compassion. I hope it inspires others, especially the younger generation, to choose service over self-interest.”

Beyond Anti-Corruption: A Heart for Grassroots Development

While Mr. Ngobie is widely respected for his leadership role in the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone, his humanitarian work at the grassroots level is equally commendable. One of his most impactful initiatives is currently underway in Malegohun Chiefdom, Kenema District, where he is personally funding the construction of a six-classroom junior secondary school.

The school will also include staff quarters, a staff room, a principal’s office, and modern water and sanitation facilities
helping to address long-standing educational gaps in the region.

This project, according to residents, is not only a beacon of hope for the community but also a testament to Mr. Ngobie’s enduring belief in development through education and self-initiative.
