Bambara Town Women’s Organization launched a Project, Challenging Harmful Gender Norms and Promoting Gender Equality in Bambara Town

Bambara Town Women’s Organization has on Wednesday July 23th 2025 launched the project title Challenging Harmful Gender Norms and Promoting Gender Equality in Bambara Town with support from Global Greengrants Fund from UK.
Giving an overview the Chair lady of the Bambara Town Women’s Organization, Juliet Anderson said that the project aims to address the social, political and economic status of women and girls by transforming attitudes, building capacity and fostering inclusive dialogue.

Juliet Anderson said that it’s also seeks to make existing gender policies more effective and meaningful at the grassroot level.
She went on that the activities to be rolled out include: Plenary discussions on Gender Stereotypes,
Promoting Women’s leadership, Promoting Women’s leadership, Engaging men and boys in gender equality and Media engagement.

She said that this engagement is going to be continue until most of the challenges are solve.
Making his opening statement, chairman of the occasion Sillah Koroma said that he is very much happy for the launch and called on the participants to take this organization very seriously. He went on that there are several issues affecting women and young boys in the country.
He said that the whole world have looked at it that people take advantage on women.
He said that this project is to let people know that women are not to be disadvantage by their male counterpart.
He added that whatever they discuss in the launch should be taken to the community by the participants so that it will have an impact.
On his part Chief Adekalli, who is the chief of the Bambara Town community thank the Bambara Town Women’s Organization and Global Greengrants Fund UK funding the organization which will help to eradicate poverty from women.
Making statement on behalf of Global Greengrants Fund UK Madam Esther Kanneh who is the country’s Supervisor Express appreciation for the turnout of the participants and said that they are ready and willing to support the Bambara Town Women’s Organization. She further that there are several issues affecting women that needs to be looking in to. She assured that their organizations is ready to support women in raising alarm.
Making her keynote address Sally N Adams President women Forum Sierra Leone firstly thank the donors who supported the project and asked them to do more as there are other communities that are in need of such engagement. She said that whenever there is serious problem in the country it is the women and young boys that will be affected more.
She also added that women in the Bambara Town community are depressed because of the gender base issues that is affecting them.
She called on the participants to go out there and implement what they have been taught during the launching.
She talked about things that are affecting women mostly in the community. She most of the women in those communities are not allowed to go to school.
She commended president Julius Maada Bio for the GEWE Act which was past in Parliament and emphasized that most of the women outside there does not know what is entail in the GEWE Act. She further that in the past women are not allowed to get access to land but now women can bust of having land even
though there are some challenges but with regular engagement they will get there.
She went on that women and men should have equal right and opportunities and empowerment.
Madam Sally Adams said that her organizations will support the Bambara Town Women’s Organization to raise awareness on the current Kush epidemic in the country.
