SLPP Elects New Leaders, Bio Sets Sights on 2028

Freetown, 31st July 2025 – Sierra Leone’s President, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, joined hundreds of party delegates at the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) 2025 National Delegates Conference held at the Freetown International Conference Centre in Aberdeen. The two-day gathering, held to elect national officers who will steer the party into the 2028 general elections, marked a significant moment of renewal, unity, and strategic planning for the ruling party.

Delegates and party stakeholders from across the country converged to elect a new slate of national officers for a three-year mandate, reinforcing the SLPP’s commitment to internal democracy, inclusion, and regional representation.

The newly elected national officers include:
National Chairman: Jimmy Batilo Songa
Deputy Chairman: Robert Kondema Kargbo
Secretary-General: Hon. Umar Paran Tarawallie
Deputy Secretary-General: Sheku M. Turay
Organising Secretary: Alhassan Balogun George
Deputy Organising Secretary: Mahawa Alieu
Public Relations Officer: Moses Mambu
Financial Secretary: Sharka Sannoh
Treasurer: Judith Kosseh
Internal Auditor: Augustine Tommy
Religious Leaders: Alhaji Sheikh Fouad Sheriff (Muslim) and Rev. Smart Senessi (Christian Chaplain)
Legal Advisers: Anthony Yeihwoe Brewah (I), Alpha Sesay Esq. (II), and Hon. Hindolo M. Gevao Esq. (III)

In his keynote address, President Bio commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and applauded the diversity of the newly elected officers. He emphasized that the process reflected democratic values and signaled the SLPP’s readiness to maintain its leadership in Sierra Leone.

The SLPP is the best choice for this country,” President Bio declared. “This election reflects national unity and demonstrates the values of family, peace, and democratic precedence. You have elected a blend of gentlemen and ladies through a peaceful and well-organised process.”

He thanked delegates for their trust and patience throughout the process and congratulated the winners for their humility and dedication to the party’s vision. President Bio added that the unity and discipline displayed at the conference placed the SLPP on a strong path toward victory in 2028.

In his maiden speech as National Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa expressed deep appreciation to President Bio for his leadership and to the delegates for their confidence in him.

I am here to support and continue the legacy of the best president our country has ever had, President Julius Maada Bio,” Chairman Songa stated. “I am committed to doing everything possible to keep our party in governance by winning the 2028 elections.”

He praised the outgoing executive for their service and vowed to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and expand its membership base across all regions.

The Independent Elections Monitoring and Oversight Committee (IEMOC), led by Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo, was lauded for conducting what many described as a transparent, fair, and credible election. Ambassador Yongawo thanked the delegates for their discipline and trust in the process, and reaffirmed IEMOC’s ongoing dedication to democratic standards within the party.

The 2025 SLPP National Delegates Conference not only ushered in a new leadership but also reinforced the party’s cohesion and determination ahead of the 2028 polls.
