Urgent Attention Needed: Deteriorating Bridge Endangers Lives and Disrupts Transportation
Hon. A.K.K. drew the House’s attention to the alarming state of the main bridge leading from the East, emphasizing that the central section of the structure has become critically compromised. He described the road surface atop the bridge as nearly impassable, having degraded into a muddy, swamp-like stretch that is endangering lives and impeding movement. “This is not just an inconvenience it is a serious safety hazard,” the lawmaker warned, noting that traffic congestion has worsened, severely disrupting transportation and commerce in the region. What makes the situation even more troubling is the lack of response, despite past warnings. Hon. A.K.K. reminded the House of a previous incident several years ago, when the right-hand side of the same bridge collapsed due to similar neglect, resulting in a tragic loss of life. “That painful chapter in our national history should have prompted lasting solutions. Unfortunately, it appears those lessons have been ignored,” he stated. He highlighted that the most severely damaged section of the bridge is located near a cluster of cement factories, an area subjected to constant heavy-duty traffic. Yet, despite the strain on the infrastructure, there has been minimal visible maintenance or intervention from the relevant authorities.
Calling for immediate government action, Hon. A.K.K. warned that continued neglect could lead to another catastrophic collapse. He stressed the need for urgent structural repairs, routine maintenance, and improved oversight to avert further loss of life and economic disruption. “This is more than just a bad road it’s a ticking time bomb,” he concluded, urging the House and all stakeholders to treat the matter with the urgency it demands.
