Leicester Road Residents Cry Out for Basic Infrastructure: “We’ve Waited Long Enough”
By Benjamin S Conteh
Residents of the Leicester Road community are making a heartfelt appeal to local authorities for urgent intervention, citing deteriorating living conditions caused by decades of neglect.
In a formal public statement released this week, community members voiced growing frustration and concern over crumbling roads, unsafe water access, erratic electricity, and the complete absence of a local health facility.
“This isn’t a call for luxury it’s a call for survival,” the letter reads. “We’re speaking not out of anger, but out of deep concern and hope for real change.”
Roads in Ruin
One of the most immediate and visible concerns is the condition of the roads. Potholes, erosion, and poor maintenance have rendered many routes nearly impassable. Parents worry about their children’s safety on the way to school. Workers face daily delays. Emergency vehicles struggle to reach residents in need.
Water Crisis Deepens
Perhaps most alarming is the ongoing water crisis. For much of the year particularly during the dry season
residents are forced to travel long distances to fetch clean water or resort to unsafe sources. “Clean water should never be optional,” one resident said. “It’s a basic human right.”
Unreliable Electricity
In addition to water issues, electricity supply in Leicester Road is described as “unstable and unreliable.” Outages occur without warning, affecting households, small businesses, schools, and even medical equipment.
No Health Centre, No Immediate Care
The community’s lack of a local health centre has become a life-threatening issue. In emergencies, residents must travel significant distances to seek even basic medical attention
often resulting in dangerous delays.
“A community without access to timely healthcare is a community at risk,” the letter warns.
Community Demands a Basic Standard of Living
The residents are calling on local government officials, utility providers, and development partners to prioritize the needs of Leicester Road. Their demands are simple:
Rehabilitate the roads
Ensure clean and safe water supply
Stabilize the electricity grid
Establish a fully functional community health centre. “These are the building blocks of any safe and dignified life,” the statement concludes. “We are ready to collaborate and contribute in any way we can, but the time for meaningful action is now. Our community has waited long enough.”
