Consortiums Demand Accountability from EcoMed Diagnostic Center

The National Consortium on Public Accountability and the Consortium on Service Delivery and Community Accountability have raised serious concerns regarding alleged labor and tax violations by EcoMed Advanced Medical Diagnostic Center. In a letter dated January 31, 2025, addressed to the institution’s manager at 19 Off King Harman Road, Freetown, the groups referenced a prior meeting at the Heritage Newspaper offices on 34 Jones Street with Mr. Kech Bayoh, during which key issues were discussed.

According to the letter, Mr. Bayoh acknowledged concerns related to tax evasion, the absence of radiation badges for radiographers, non-payment of PAYE taxes, and violations of labor laws. The consortiums stated that the letter serves as a formal reminder of their intent to escalate the matter if no action is taken.

The letter further warned that, given EcoMed’s repeated failure to address these concerns, the consortiums are prepared to officially petition the relevant authorities for urgent intervention. Allegations against the institution include labor law breaches, failure to provide risk allowances and safety gear for radiation staff, non-compliance with NASSIT and NRA tax obligations, and broader human rights violations.

“These actions amount to grave injustices that have no place in the 21st century,” the letter stated. The consortiums have requested a meeting with EcoMed’s senior management within five working days to discuss the allegations. If their concerns are not addressed, they have vowed to organize a public press conference, pursue legal action, and stage

protests at the institution’s premises.
