On Sunday, February 23, 2025, the people of Falaba District came together in full force to express their gratitude to Honorable Mohamed Billor Shaw, Member of Parliament for Constituency 039, representing Dembelia-Sikunia, Dembelia-Musaia, Folosaba-Kamba Chiefdoms, and sections of Kebelia Chiefdoms. The “Thank You Tour,” organized by the people of Falaba District, was a celebration of the remarkable work Hon. Shaw has done for his constituents since taking office in 2018 under the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
The event, which saw representatives from the thirteen chiefdoms of Falaba District, was a vibrant display of local tradition and community spirit. It was a unique opportunity for the people of Falaba to publicly thank their MP for the many developments brought to the district under his leadership, including the establishment of a secondary school, the provision of safe drinking water, reliable power supply, radio services, and ongoing improvements to health centers, including the addition of oxygen facilities.
Honorable Shaw, who has been instrumental in securing these developments through persistent advocacy, expressed his deep appreciation for the support he has received from the people of Falaba. During his address at the Gbindi Court Barray, Shaw reflected on the progress made since his tenure began, highlighting the completion of several key infrastructure projects such as the expansion of Sikunia Secondary School with three new classrooms, a local radio station, and the provision of 24-hour electricity in five key sections of Falaba, including GBindi, Sinkunia, Mongor, Falaba Town, and two other sections.
In his remarks, Hon. Shaw emphasized the importance of the people of Falaba continuing to support the SLPP party and its ideology, particularly as the next election cycle approaches.
He urged his supporters to propagate the values of peace and unity while ensuring the sustained development of the district.
Shaw concluded his speech by assuring the people of Falaba that he and his fellow SLPP MPs would continue to advocate for better infrastructure, including the much-needed rehabilitation of roads in the region.
The event also saw a number of other prominent figures speak in support of Hon. Shaw’s work. Hon. Alhaji Foday Maddie Jabbie, Member of Parliament for Falaba, shared his alignment with Shaw’s goals for the district, praising the hard work of the outgoing SLPP party executives, whose efforts helped ensure the party’s success in the 2023 elections. Jabbie appealed to the newly elected party executives to work even harder in order to secure SLPP’s continued dominance in the district by the 2028 elections.
The district party chairman, Yayah Wan, also expressed his gratitude to the people of Falaba for their unwavering support of the SLPP.
He acknowledged the positive impact of Shaw’s advocacy, particularly the introduction of solar mini-grids that provide round-the-clock electricity to the district, benefitting local businesses and households alike.
Finda Samura, the District Women’s Leader, also addressed the crowd, thanking the women of Falaba for their role in supporting Hon. Shaw and the SLPP.
She encouraged the women to continue standing by Shaw and to ensure that the necessary support is given for the continued progress of the district.
Samura further urged her fellow women to maintain peace and harmony in Falaba, a trait that the district is known for.
The “Thank You Tour” was a heartfelt event that underscored the unity, gratitude, and optimism of Falaba’s people as they continue to rally behind Hon. Mohamed Billor Shaw, whose leadership has already brought about tangible improvements to their lives. As the tour came to a close, the people of Falaba District expressed their hope that such tours would become a regular tradition, reinforcing the SLPP legacy and contributing to the ongoing prosperity of the region.
